HI...I'm sure many of you remember me as the girl with a hunderd posts about having sound problems with my Toshiba laptop. Well I still have no sound...but here's the latest development. I don't know if this has to do
with anything...but under sounds and multimedia, under the devices tab, i have nothing listed under "line input devices", whereas every thing else seems to have something and everything says it's enabled and active. Do you think this is related, or am I not supposed to have anything listed? Just curious... when i finally get to go home for winter break, I plan on bringing it to the store where I bought it. But just thought I'd give one more problem for someone to try and tackle, because I do such a good job of it :) Thanks again....

Hi Sue. Read a lot of, but not all the previous posts. I don't recall anyone suggesting to run Dxdiag.exe. It is the Direct X Diagnostics and may be of some help. Go to Start >Run and type in dxdiag. Give it a shot and see what it comes up with.....

Can/will it run if you double-click/open it from within your C:\Windows\System folder?

...you should find "dxdiag.exe" within that folder.

ok i updated something on my computer and now dxdiag is running....a problem i found in it thought is that it says it is having trouble with DirectMuisc. and when i click on the music tab it says that there are no Directmusic ports found....then on the input tab i try to run DirectPlay voice..it says there is no sound card installed. I know I downloaded a sound driver from the correct website and installed it, but is that seperate from my sound card? Ay yi yi..computers can be so complicated!

you haven't had sound for months. At least 100 posts have tried to help you.

when did sound last work? what was the very next thing you did and then it didn't work??

and no it isn't crazy, I know psych majors who post on boards and do things just like this.

i updated DirectX 9.0b End-User Runtime, because it was suggested to do so in my Windows Update. Then i did it, and finally when i typed dxdiag in my run, it finally worked.

Nothing under 'Line Input Devices' is common.
What EXACTLY is shown under Audio Devices in the devices tab.

Sue I don't know if you ever said what kind of sound media you have, onnoard integrated sound device or sound card, I think i offered some help some where along the line in one of your many posts, if its onboard yuo have to enabled it it bios in order for it to work and of course you then have to install propper drivers for it as well, please refresh our memory as to your basic problem.
