Subject: IE6 - SHDOCLC.DLL\dnserror |
Comment: Recently had to reinstall all the Norton anti-virus protection on my computer after it was infected by Klez e-mail worm virus. Since doing that, I have had the same problem with the message "res://C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SHDOCLC.DLL\dnserror.htm" appearing in IE 6 when I try to view any pages. In order to gain access to the internet have had to install Netscape Navigator browser which is OK, but I'd like to have IE back up and working. Any other ideas on how to solve this ?? Many thanks

You can try Start>Settings>Control Pane>Add/Remove Programs> Internet Exporer 6.0 & Internet Tools. Click On Internet Tools. A box will come up. Select to REPAIR IE 6.0 . If it can be repaired you might be able to get back ONLINE Again. Another thing to check into in control Panel is the Internet Options are. Look in the folder called Connections. Make sure you DO NOT connect through a PROXY SERVER when uusing AOL. It refuses to behave under these terms. Also check in the settings & advanced areas to make doubly sure you aren't going through a proxy server. Also found some info Here Good luck!

Reply: (edit)Thanks for the advice - but NONE of those actions work. Repair does not come up with any defects, and I use Freeserve (UK) internet provider. Before I re-installed Norton Anti-Virus last night, IE was working fine so I'm sure it has something to do with that. Found another message thread on the same problem which said to delete some of the registry settings - again tried this but still the same problem. Annoying to say the least. Any other ideas that I could try ?
