Hi,
Here's the story: After using Windows Update IE6 now refuses to allow the focus to go to input fields (i.e. form fields, search engine inputs etc) although it *will* allow hyperlinks to be followed. Virus checker has shut down and access to A: and D: drives has stopped (they both show activity but show as unoccupied in Windows Explorer.)

Might this be a virus problem or some other issue and how do I fix it?!?!?!?

Thanks in advance,

Pylo

Go into safe mode and run your Av. if it is clean it is generally accepted that you have no bugs.

If it indicates a virus/trojan then disable your system restore:

http://download.nai.com/products/mcafee-avert/SystemHelpDocs/DisableSysRestore.htm

and post back what it is. It is not impossible that oyu picked up a bug during the download, but more than likely a faulty download tha fragged your IE. I have seen that before and it has happened to me.

If your virus run is clean, go to Add/Remove programs, highlight IE (probably has a number after it), and see if it gives you a repair function. If not, or if that doesn't do it, then go here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/ie6sp1/default.asp

and reinstall IE-6 sp-1. Again, if your AV run in safe mode gives you a bug, post back what it is, and disable system restore immediately (cleans system restore files where they will hide).
