I have been using IE5 (then 5.5) for about three years, and once tried upgrading to IE6, but it caused more problems than it solved. I went back to v5.5 and it has been ok up until now, but I now keep getting several error messages (usually - Explore has caused an error in (unknown) and will now close). It closes, but then re-opens again and seems to work ok.
I was advised at one time tnat IE6 did not work well with ME as it was designed for XP, so best to stick with 5.5.
Can anyone now say that IE6 works well with ME, or would I best stick with v5.5?

I also have stayed with I.E. 5.5 SP2, cause I was reading post from other WinMe users that had serious probs with I.E. 6! I have not had any probs with 5.5 SP2 ! I never even tried installing I.E. 6 ,and your Explorer errors maybe more related to Explorer.exe then which ver of the browser you are using ? IMHO,
Good Luck Nick

IE6 sp1 is a good solid browser as far as IE's go. It's well worth upgrading to, and runs just fine on 9x/ME. Get rid of your spyware and stuff first in your other post and then upgrade. Chances are, a clean install of a new IE6 will probably clear the error messages too. I'd do it via windows update, but run those scans beforehand and clear the infected stuff out first.

I have stayed with IE5.5 SP2 also, for a security reason as well as the loss of some functions in IE6 which IE5.5 has.
IE5.5 SP2 was the last POP3 email accounts.
IE6 and above went to Hotmail email accounts, which is open the the web. Also IE5.5 has never given me problems.

From one Dave-to-another!!! I had IE 5.5, & I was advised against going-to #6. Are you aware... that a version just-for "ME" exists??? I have IE#6, & it seems to be working-fine, so-far! Perhaps it isn't - & I'm too-dense to realize that it isn't!!! It DOES... seem fine - at this time (2 months' use). I'd try it, 'cuz I like the COOKIE options! Good-luck, & hope this helps! DAVE K.

JPW: Don't know where you got the idea that IE6 doesn't support POP3, the internet browser just automatically redirects you to a HotMail account if you don't have Outlook Express set as the default mail client. There's probably a registry hack somewhere so you could set it to ANY online account (such as Yahoo!, 1net, Netscape, or others). IE6 is also THE most standards compliant browser, however surprising that is, considering it's a Microsoft product. I am currently using 5.5, and would upgrade to 6 if I could, but the windowsupdate.microsoft.com site keeps locking up my computer every time I visit it.

Dave: the thing with using IE is consistency from what I can see. You have to have everything updated--IE, Outlook (settings will affect IE even if you don't use Outlook), Me. Keep it all updated.
I have Win Me, love it, IE 6 SP1, but I
don't use Outlook, but I do keep it updated.Have you read this:
