Comment: Installed the new IE version 6. Seems to run much better than 5.5 under Windows ME. No hangs, freezes, etc. No blue screens of death, no problems. Well, one....McAfee Active Shield doesnt recognize IE 6 yet. so no virus updates until McAfee does something. anyway, recommend IE ver 6. (its beta) but does really well with WINDOWS ME

Reply: (edit)Less than 2 mins. installed IE 6.0 Beta to updated my 5.5 ..I ALREADY ENCOUNTERED ERRORS!! e.g.) I have the Microgarden Animated customized logo and HOTBAR in the browser when I went and try to change the animated logo, it gives me ERRORS every time. Now I downgraded back to IE 5.5. Hopefully someone can fix this.

Reply: (edit)Before you download IE6 you get this warning "Important This is beta software, distributed for feedback and testing purposes. Microsoft does not provide technical support for beta products. This software is for advanced users who regularly test pre-released software. If you are unsure of whether this accurately describes you, Microsoft recommends that you do NOT download this software. If you choose to install this software, Microsoft recommends that you install it in a test environment and not on a primary computer or operating system" If you dont heed and put this untested program, which probably has many bugs,on you main computer you get what you deserve.

Reply: (edit)I was installing IE 6 and at 65% it also froze, just like you Dave. I was forced to restart my PC, and as the warning tells you, rebooting during the installation can cause extensive damage to the system...and that's what happened!! What else could I do? I HAD to restart my PC. The result of this is that my PC won't start, it would just freeze while Windows ME was starting. I had to format my HD, I hate that!!!! :-( Never install beta or preview software, its very unreliable!!

Reply: (edit)upgrade things only when you MUST upgrade... dont upgrade just for the curiosity... dont fix what is not broken....upgrade only after the product is out for about a year and the bugs are ironed out.... BACK UP EVERYTHING before any upgrade....upgrades are bad....just some thoughts ;-) Regards Miro

Reply: (edit)I think pretty much the beta is about 90% of the full version gonna be....so I don't think it would fixes these bugs. Novice or Advancer users it shouldn't be difficult to use this beta..MS just make it so they can't be blame if something do go wrong.

Reply: (edit)IE6 beta has a problem direct installing from the net. download the version and install offline. There are 2 files that are in use by ver. 5 during the install that causes the problem. Install offline.

Reply: (edit)As you mentioned in your advice Ron, the problem with IE 6 comes from downloading and installing it directly because 2 files are in use by IE 5.5. So, I downloaded it (Download Only in Full Installation) then I disconnected and even restarted my PC. I finally ran the installation and AGAIN it freezes at 65%...What the hell is going on with Microsoft??? They want us to give our opinion on their products but we can't even install them!!! Do you think you could still help me? If I can't get anymore help, I think it'll be wiser to stick to 5.5, and wait like everyone else for WinXP which will be released along with IE6.
