Can anyone tell me what the problem is? Well first of all when i start the comp and all the taskbar icons come up i have this message that comes up "DW.EXE" is causing a problem or something to the effect of that. I assume I took an icon off the taskbar and now it keeps showing me that. Anyways, the bigger problem is my IE 5.5 (I assume that came with the Win. ME), well whenever I use it, it keeps closing on me showing me something like "KERNEL32.DLL" and some message saying that it will now close. I wanted to know what that is and how can I stop my IE from closing. It was so bad that I d/l Slim Browser, which works perfectly fine. but the IE still opens up on its own and "whenusearch.com" comes up which is annoying and when I go to close that window, that KERNEL32.DLL comes up again. Its like a Pop-Up ad gone mad. I wanted to get rid of the IE but what i really want it to do is WORK! If someone can help me in the simplest terms possible (I am not a comp expert) I would really appreciate it. Thanks. :) Oh yeah...sorry....but is there a need to update to IE 6???

Experimental HTML aside molokaiiangirl, you need to do a couple of the usual things first.

First download and run fully updated versions of Spybot S&D and Ad-aware6.

That should take care of DW.EXE.

Next, do a couple of online virus scans - Trend Micros - Housecall and Pandas Active Scan.

While your eating beef and going mental, do a TrojanScan as well.

After that, head to the windows update site and make sure you have Service Pack 2 for IE 5.5.

And while your there, get every other security patch you should have.

THEN, repair IE 5.5.

Click Start >> point to Settings >> click Control Panel >> and then double-click Add/Remove Programs >> On the Install/Uninstall tab >> click Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 >> click Add/Remove >> click Repair the current installation of Internet Explorer >> and then click OK.

Then, as it's already been mentioned elsewhere, download and run SpywareBlaster and keep that updated.

If your still not in good shape after that, download and run HijackThis and post the log file on this thread.

Sure there's something I've missed, but we'll blame that on the slightly acidic red coloured water ;)

Silly me 8-|

Before you run those online scans, disable system restore.

After the online scans have completed, re enable it by following the same method, only taking the check out of the box.

Then carry on about your bizzzniz.
