Norton antivirus 2004 interrupted during weekly scan and said corrupted and had to reinstall. Installed new 2005 version. Short time later Internet Explorer has stopped working, blue screen. Outlook still gets emails, aol aim works, aol brouser works. Some files associated with IE, as music programs don't work either.

Try opening up the control panel ADD/REMOVE programs ,highlight I.E. and when you click on remove it should offer you an option to repair. Its worth a try ,other then that ,you can also try a system restore to a time when it was working well. I was recieving a error notice in I.E. and was told I would have to reinstall O/S to repair the prob. I frist tried a system restore and have'nt seen the error notice since ,I may have just been lucky ? Hopfully so will you !
Take Care Nick

Thought that this would be answer, but when I did repair mode, it still didn't work. Tryed to download IE service pac to see if it would help, but said error in downloading. Don't want to think about os re-install, but may be only hope.

Nick, thanks for your help. I was trying to help my daughter at college. We couldn't get it to work, but an IT guy came by. He had no respect for Windows ME, rightly so, but solved problem fairly quickly. As best as my daughter could figure out, he said too many programs were starting on start up. He shut down a number of them on start menu and now Internet Explorer works. He was sure problems would return at some point just becaus ME was such a poor system.

I have been using winME for 3 years now and i love it.Best op sys goin I think.I never have problems with it.
If u want to stop things starting when pc is turned on Click start, run and type msconfig hit enter.
Click startup tab.
MOst files can be unticked.Untick them all one by one and restart pc.any proiblems just go back in and retick it.Also u may have many unwanted files on pc like in temp folder.Best way to get rid of all unwanted files is with system mechanic.U can download a 30 trial.
Peace
