Cannot access Microsoft update page. Error message about me having to download Visual Basics. I had the first version of 6.0 for about 2 months I did not have this problem. I download the second version and when it finished installing it said the VB installation failed and to try it again. Every time I try it will not install. Also the uninstall is grayed out in the add/remove program so I cannot uninstall. Running Windows ME. I also have Zone Alarm 2..6.88 I lowered the security to download the VB files they download but won't install, any ideas short of reformatting. Otherwise this is a great browser. I had installed on my laptop with Window 98 but the Media Player would no longer work I was able to install with Windows 98 but not with ME.

Anyone have any good suggestions?

I had the same problem. Just use system restore and go back to a point just prior to installing ie6 beta-2.

I just downloaded and installed IE 6.0, because I had heard good results and then came on here and read your post and thought I would check my update, so I did and downloaded the ide cache patch and got no error at all and everything seems to be working great, so maybe go to control panel and try the tools and see if that will fix your problem if not then do system restore and reinstall, because maybe something happened when you downloaded it or installed it, but try the tools to fix it first. Sue I also have Zone Alarm and have it set to med on internet because of call wave. I did not turn off zone alarm when I down loaded the IE6, and it worked fine.

All of these versions are beta and are unstable. If they have conflicts, they can really mess your computer up, i.e. corrupt your registry. I would try system restore and if that does not work, if have a back up registry, go ahead and reload that.

I am running IE 6 Beta 2 on Win ME and it runs fine. Betas are Betas for a reason - because they ain't finished. Didn't you read the "Don't run this unless you are a god" notice on the MS site? My guess is that it's got a problem with a piece hardware in your system. Mine's running ona Celeron 633 with 384MB RAM.
