Thanks to all that responded, ok ok I'll stick with IE 5.5,,,lol it does work well I must agree, but you don't know this til you try the others normally do you?
However, even if I don't need it, what was the problem with the d/l and setup situation, nobody ended up answering that one ,,,lol it would be interesting to know at the end of the day, thanks to all once again :)

The problem is you need to download IE6 as a separate download and save it to disk. Then install it from there.

...will get you there - there is also a security patch you may need (or not).
I have been using IE6 for a few weeks now and it seems to work fine - at least as well as 5.5
The way I got IE6 is from buying the December issue of MAXIMUM PC magazine with CD-ROM. the FULL version (including service pack and internet tools etc.) of IE6 is on there and a bunch of updated drivers for various software (ie intel graphics chipset and a couple different brands of mouse drivers).
