"Make sure windows sees the drive in device manager.
make sure the jumpers are set correctly. If your old cdrom was set as secondary master or slave you must set the new drive the same.
To be able to use the burner you will need a burning program like adaptec or nero or whatever the drive came with if any."
Please respond to the reply at your original thread before posting your request again. Your not answering this person may be why others have chose not to respond.Check that the jumpers on the back of the cdrom are configure to master or slave depending on where they are plugged into the IDE cable. If the ide cable only has 2 connectors (one on each end) the jumpers should be set to master. If the cable has 3 connectors. (one at the board end and two at the drive end) The middle connector is the slave position and the drive end is the master. Set the jumpers to where they should be.
If youve done this windows should atleast install a basic generic driver to support cdrom read. If not try running the installation disk that came with the cd burner. If you didnt get a disk search the HP website for downloadable drivers.
