Hi, I have a minor problem here concerning icons. The icon that corresponds to the file type does not show up for me.
For example, I have realplayer open up all MP3 files. It is supposed to have a Realplayer icon showing me that it is a realplayer file, but right now it is showing me the default windows icon. How can I fix this?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

This is easy, assuming that the icons are what "Theorietical" they should be, they just show other icons instead, do this.
Right click on the icon you want changed, go to properties.
Bottom right is "Change Icon"
Pick the realplayer one. You might have to find it.

Sorry maybe I didn’t explain it well. It’s not a desktop icons I'm having problems with, it’s the icons in the folders and those don’t have the option to “Change Icon” when I click properties.
I did go to Folder Options though and tried to fix it from there, but I couldn’t. When I clicked “Change Icon” there it had the realplayer icon that should be shown, but for some reason in the folders it still is showing the default windows icon for that file type.

I don’t think that’s the problem because I switched it to windows media player and the icon for that didn’t show up either.

Unhide hidden folders and do a seasrch for SHELLICONCACHE. Delete this folder and reboot twice, that should fix it.

Tried that already. It didn’t work. Is there anything else I can do?
BTW I also tried Tweak UI. That didn’t fix the problem either.

Hi James.
I cannot help you with your problem but I can do the next best thing. I have 2 small free programs that I down loaded from the Net some time ago which lets you change icons for shortcuts & folders to those of your choosing.
One of the programs let you use any icon hidden within windows and the other any icons that you have downloaded from the Net. I use Star Wars and Simpsons plus a few other I find occasionally.
If you are interested drop me a line.
Regards
