I have a Dell Dimension L800r and it has a onboard video card that is a piece of trash. something like 3.5 mb crap card. Ive tried installing my new card (tnt2plus)to no success but im not skilled in the matter, any suggestion on how to install the card so it bypasses the original card? please help! I'm desperate. p.s. if there is no solution does anyone have a plan to blow up the Dell building?

I'll gladly help you blow up Dell HQ...LOL
But you should be able to find a setting in the BIOS (press F2 when you see the DELL logo when you power on) which will allow you to disable the onboard graphics.

If that fails, go to Device Manager and double click Display Adapters, then double click the onboard video and checkmark the option "Disable in the hardware profile". This will put a red "X" on the video card controller. Shut down and then physically install your TNT card.

Chris.

The last machine i did this on was a packard bell multimedia machine.

All that i did was install the new card and plug the monitor into it.

When i turned the machine on, windows detected the new card and installed the drivers, completley bypassing the on board rubbish.
This should work on yours because if you don't have monitor plugged into the onboard graphics, it isn't used and shouldn't be detected.

If it doesn't work, you may possibly need to move a jumper on your MOBO depending on the age of it.

Hope this helps

I found that TNT2's and Me do not get along very well. I tried for 2 months to get the freakin thing installed, and sometimes I got it installed and then it would end up causing some stupid problem and the drivers wouldn't work anymore. I got a GeForce2 and that installed with absolutely no problems whatsoever. I also thought it was the card that was faulty but I replaced it twice with other TNT2's and they all had the same problems. I also tried installing Me clean and that didn't work either. I have since started using XP and the TNT2 works perfectly fine. Me is a peice of crap, lol.

I bought this TNT2 M64 PCI 32mb 2 weeks ago,
I am 150% agree w. Krezno that TNT2 doesn't quite like to work w. Win ME. LOL...
It took me 2 days to get it worked fine & I thought I solved the problem already. After
that, It caused a conflict w. my scanner. MY
comp couldn't even detect communication w. my
scanner. What a pain in the Bxxt. That means
I couldn't even use the printer either. I was
so fed up ,so I decided to teach this card how to work properly instead of the card tells me when it wants to work fine.
Here r some of my experience w. the TNT2 card
from the last 2 weeks. Hope it's helpful to
whoever accidently bought this card like me,
LOL....
Oops...my comp is a Compaq Presario 5010 w.
PIII 866mhz, 512mb sdram, & intel 82810E onboard graphic controller...running Win ME.

Step 1 : D/L the latest drivers fm Nvidia.com
(including the Detonator XP{Win9X-ME_23.11}
After that ,extract the drivers. Then turn
off the comp.

Step 2 : insert yr card into the PCI slot &
plug in the monitor too. then ,power up the
comp.

Step 3 : Win ME should detect yr card & install the software for it. Yr Desktop &
wallpaper are like a mess, right??? Don't worry, When Win ME prompt u to restart the
comp, Click {("NO")}.

***Step 4 : Now, right click "My computer"
>>>choose "properties">>>then "Device Manager", U will find under "Display adapters" there r 2 items. 1 is yr on board
graphic controller(mine is intel 82810e), another one is the TNT2 video card u just installed W. an exclamation mark.
Now, click on yr onboard controller, then choose "Properties"(lower left corner)another
windows will come up. check on "Disable in this hardware profile" click "OK".

***Step 5 : Now, in "Device manager", choose "System devices", look for yr onboard graphic
controller & disable it like u did before.
(intel XXXXXe DC-133 System & graphic controller) After that, click "OK" & come back to Desktop.

***Step 6*** : Now, Don't restart yr comp.
choose "start">>>"shut down">>>"shut down"
>>>then "OK".
((((Wait 1 minute or 2)))), power up yr comp again. Yr display should be good by now.

Personal quote:
I know it sounds so weird, but it works for me every time when there's a problem w. this card. If I am in "Safe mode" ,I just remove it fm "DM" & restart Windows, let it detects
the video card, then completely shut down the comp for couple mins. Then power up , the display will back to normal again.
Pls don't laugh at me & ask me why, maybe
this is the only way that can get "TNT2 & ME"
work together. hahahaha....Also, I was going
to disable the onboard graphic in BIOS, but
when I got into BIOS, it was already disabled
My TNT2 card (slot 3) is enabled already.
Don't know why...Anyway, hope this is helpful
to everybody.

My PC also came with intergrated graphics on the motherboard (i810). I purchased an ATI RADEON 32MB PCI ( no AGP slot available). Before installing the drivers and software for the new card , the instructions said to disable the graphics in device manager reboot and let the system install the standard VGA software.I check my BIOS and in my case there was no option to disable onboard video, however some BIOS do have this feature. I have noticed a many benifits of having the new card installed , my performance and look have improved ten fold. LOL ,Nick
