I have some MP3 and picture files I really want off of my computer

because some of them mean tons to me and aren’t replaceable and my computer
is having a boot issue here is all the info I could fine to give you.

first off that compuyter has ME

when i boot up my computer i go to the screen where i can boot in safe mode or normal boot etc. well under that it says "Windows has detected a Configuration/ registry error. Use SCANREG to correct this error.

well i try to boot it in safe mode and it automatically runs scan disk, after it finishes the grey screen just stays there with safe mode in every corner.

when I try to boot in normal a pop up comes up saying "new hardware found. searching for more new drivers. Then the new hardware wizard comes up. and i choose the automatically search option. Then it says windows is unable to locate the software for this device. If you don’t want to install the software now click finish. to search again click back and when I click finish since i didn’t see any way to go back and find it myself i get a pop up saying something like
"Enum\htree\root\o" and it cuts off at that point and under that it says suregcreatekeyfailed or something

now that’s all the info i can give ATM now what i really need is to get my music and pictures onto a CD so i can transfer them to a new computer my old computer has one floppy and one CD drive that can burn, now i don’t have the option of putting the hard drive in another computer seeing as i can
not open the case of my new one so I really kind of need to be able to put my data on a CD.

I also have a Ethernet wire *i think that’s what it is and how its spelled its
like a phone line but wider* if that can be used for a direct transfer.

Umm I’m sorry that this is very badly typed lol if you need any more

info just let me know umm if it will make it easier to help me by IM I'm on

Have a geeky friend come over and take that hard drive out and slave it into a working machine with a CDRW drive and back up the data.

'at's whut I'da do ifa were me.

or for that matter, even just copy the files to another harddrive in a second machine.

NOW might be a GREAT time to buy yourself another hard drive, and a copy of Norton Ghost.

"Windows has detected a registry configuration error. Use SCANREG to correct this error"

Use the scanreg command first and see if you can fix the problem. Get your windows ME start up disk (boot disk) and boot with the disk. When you get to the A:\> prompt. Type C:\ and press enter.

You should be at the C:\> prompt. Now type

scanreg /fix

and hit enter and follow it through, see how far that gets you.

Failing that, do the same thing only this time trying

scanreg /restore

And try and choose a date prior to the problem occuring.

Hi. I used the scanreg/restore command the other day to get past an error that was stopping me from booting up normally. I uised it in the MS DOS Prompt in safe mode. If you can access safe mode try it.Type:
"cd\windows\command" ENTER then type:
"scanreg/restore" ENTER Then choose a restore date.

ASS WHOOPING TIME

Put a space between "scanreg" and "/restore".Just a note about a common mistake everyone always makes.

From a DOS start, the space is irrelevant - leave it in or off, won't matter

Running scanreg from WinME, it is required - you can just enter it in the 'run' box from Safe or Normal mode

It's not usually necessary to specify the full path (or to 'cd' to it)
