I Get DOS prompt: WinME won't start

Subject: I Get DOS prompt: WinME won't start
OS: Windows ME
CPU/Ram: Pentium 3- 256MB
Comment:
I get the C:\ prompt when starting up the machine.

Tried system restore, didn't work.

Tried c:\windows\win it says "only runs on MS-DOS 8.00 and higher".

autoexec.bat and config.sys are there and haven't been renamed. System.ini hasn't been changed, still has "Shell=explorer.exe" line in it.

any suggestions, please? Trying to avoid $150 for tech support or $75 for local PC repair or re-install.

I just know it's gotta be some tiny line mis-allocating some critical piece of data.

Thank YOu

Did that already.

That changed it from "invalid system disk" at start up to the C:\> at start up.

Windows appears to be loading, but no GUI.

"Windows appears to be loading, but no GUI."

What a curious statement

Are you quite certain you used a WinME bootdisk, and not one for Win98?

Finally just put in the same bootdisk again and did sys C: again and it got WinME to boot. Just Had to reinstall printer driver.

Has anyone ever had to do the sys c: thing twice to get a system back?

Nope

Should've seen 'system transferred' if successful - I suppose how the Win98 system files got on there will remain a mystery?
