I found where the problem is, BUT

I don't know where to go with it now. I posted earlier about how I couldn't get Windows ME to shut down. I tried to find the disable fast shutdown, but I didn't see that option in the msconfig program. I traced the problem to somewhere on the desktop, but I don't know how to correct the problem. I can shut down the computer if I don't click on the "restore desktop" option, but if I do restore the desktop, it won't do a normal shutdown. Thank you all for any help you can give me on this one.
sounds like you have some kind of Video display setting conflict that is making your desktop turn white with black lettering and it ask if you want to restore your desktop I would check your Video drivers to see if they are the latest or correct ones for your monitor and maybe adjust your desktop settings to see if it solves this problem. post back with more details on your problem and let us know if you have solved it...LJ

open control-panel ->display ->web-> uncheck the active destop mode. This will get rid of the repair desktop, but if it solves your problem, I have no idea JOhan

Thank you, I will try these suggestions and see if they work. To answer guru's question, I clicked on the restore desktop option because it appeared since I hadn't had a normal shutdown during the last session.
