Subject: I explore has caused an error in unknown |
Comment: I am trying to upgrade from dial-up to Cable. When I open IE 5.5 I get an error message saying either 1)"I explore has caused an error in Jscript.dll" or 2)"I explore has caused an error in unknown". Also, on the desktop I get an error message every few seconds reading "Explorer has caused an error in unknown". The computer uses windows ME and IE 5.5. My dial-up connection no longer works. The winipcfg detects the cable modem and the cable company says everything is working fine. I have exhausted all the tech support from cable co. and computer co. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Reply: (edit)There are problems now with using IE5.5 because of hacking and the 19 security up-dates that have had to be applied even to IE6.0. The best plan which I have used several times now is to get a full download of IE6.0 or OPERA 6.01 (OR BOTH) UNinstall IE5.5 and INstall IE6.0 as a fresh install and NOT an up-grade. If you can not get to a download site mail me at demographics@wol.be and I will mail you one. As soon as you have IE6.0 installed go to the Windows UP-DATE site and ADD EVERY up-date you can find STARTING with the critical up-dates and for system restore and the IDE hard drive if that is what you have. Clean, defrag and scan add a restore point and you are in business! Iain.

Reply: (edit)How do I get a full version of IE6? I thought the free MSN disk might have it, but it doesnt. The versions that I can find online are all upgrades that require internet setup and install.
