When I click on icons, for example on my desktop, lets say I click on Microsoft Word, the Microsoft Word icon, it just becomes in a paler shade, but will not open. Its the same thing in my start button and my quick launch, nothing opens. I need to right click then click "open" so the program can start running, its starting to get too long and i do not like it. There is probably a very easy way to solve my problem, I would like detailed help, thank you very much for your help!. (excuse me for my english by the way.)

If you're really using XP (as in your information at the top of your post), scanreg won't do anything. Try system restore to a date before the problem started.
