I can't play games on my system!!!!

I have a 500MHz AMD processor, 128Mb RAM and can't play any games, they start then as the action nears the beginning, it just bombs out. You return to your windows screen. I also have directx 8. Not even FIFA nor Colin McRae Rally could run. Mortal Kombat can only run in window sized frames. HELP!!!!

I had the exact same problem with a brand new Athlon system (VIA chipset). The problem was that the techs that put the system together hadn't installed the GART driver for the AGP port. If you have the disks for your system, check both the motherboard CD and the Video card CD. Also check the sites of the companies that made your motherboard and video card for the latest GART driver.
I suspect that when the card tries to do AGP memory access, it locks. It was fine for my machine until new textures needed to be loaded (a few seconds into a game or benchmark), then it dumped me back to the desktop. Getting the right driver installed correctly fixed it.

We need to know what type of graphics card you have. Type dxdiag from RUN and click on the Display tab. It will tell you the name of the card and the manufacturer.
