I was having 2 operating systems Windows ME on C drive and Windows 2000 on D drive. I formated C drive due to virus problem and reinstalled windows Me again on it. Before this i copied my boot.ini from C drive and put that back after reinstalling windows me.
My problem is i cant get the choice when i boot to choose which operating system i want to use, so i cant go to windows 2000 which is in D drive.
Please help me to get the choice at boot time to choose between windows me and windows 2000. What else should i do aprt from copying back this boot.ini file in c:\. I have given the boot.ini file below for your reference, Thanks in advance
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect
C:\="Microsoft Windows"

The NT bootloader takes more than just a boot.ini file. It needs NTDETECT, NTLDR and BOOTSECT.DOS as well as BOOT.INI.
I'm familiar with repairing an XP bootloader but not sure if the process is the same for 2K.
You might ask in the 2k forum for help repairing the bootloader or do a search of the archives. I'm confident you aren't the first to have this problem so the answer is probably there if you search for it.

Teach him to fish and his wife will never forgive you.

Start your computer with the Windows Setup floppy disks, or with the Windows CD-ROM. Make sure that the CDROM is the first boot device in BIOS.
At the "Welcome to Setup" screen, press F10, or press R to repair, and then press C (Windows 2000 only) to start the Windows Recovery Console. Select the appropriate number for the Windows installation that you want to repair, and then type the administrator password. If the administrator password does not exist, just press ENTER.
type fixmbr - This will alter your Master Boot Record and set it up to boot the NT Boot Loader.
You may be prompted whether you want to continue - Answer yes(y) to the cautionary prompt.type fixboot - Writes a new partition boot sector to the system partition.
You may be prompted whether you want to continue - Answer yes(y) to the cautionary prompt.
Type exit
The PC will now re-boot.You should now get your boot menu displayed allwing you to choose your OS to boot.

OO{s I forgot something else. As you have formatted and install Windows ME you will also have lost the NTLDR and NTDETECT.COM files.
Thus before typing exit as indicated in my earlier post you need to do the following as well:
type copy e:\ntldr c:\. - This assumes e: is your CDROM directory.
type copy e:\ntdetect.com c:\. - This assumes e: is your CDROM directory.
Remove the WinXP CD from the CDROM drive and Type exit
The PC will now re-boot.
