I recently purchased an hp scanjet 4300c which I've connected to my hp pavillion 6830 which is running Windows ME. I cannot get the buttons on the scanner to operate. The only way that I can get the scanner to work is to go through the Program file. The directions with the Scanner only explain how to get the buttons to operate under Windows 95/98. Can you please help me?

I had same problem with 3400 scanner, finally found answer at HP. Had to copy english folder from CD to a new folder on my desktop and go to safe mode and install from the new folder on my desktop. It worked

Here's the answer: HP has a replacement CD for your scanner. It is normal for your experience (and expected) and you CANNOT find a workaround. Do not waste your time. The hardware cannot work with Me, UNLESS you call HP and have the CD mailed to you. The CD is too large to be a download on there site - it is not available as a download. Just go to the site, get their number, give them a call, and put the project on ice for about a week until to CD comes. It's worth the wait. You do NOT need a new scanner! Best of Success to you!

I would suggest buying a DIFFERENT brand scanner. I have windows ME, have had several HP scanners...even with the CD fix, you will find that most times to use your scanner, you will need to unplug it then plug it back in, for it to work. The best scanner and the best price is the Artec scanners. They work GREAT with Windows ME.
