Installed scanner, software says it cannot turn on usb ports, BIOS shows usb enabled, also in hardware it shows hp scanner under imaging devices..tried to install patch from HP site...still doesn't work. Can anyone help?

take a look in the device manager...

open up all of the little plus signs and see if there are any exclamation points on anything... especially anything in 'system devices' and USB

it could just be that ME didn't pick up your USB drivers... or it could be that you need motherboard drivers.

post back with a little more info.

Device manager shows shows no conflicts, and usb drivers are present with latest drivers downloaded. Unfortunately I don't have anything else usb to check ports. Maybe HP just isn't compatible with ME.

I too had the same prob, Work around #1 from HP (same site as big bill gave) worked for mine, try both work arounds and let us know what happened.

Okay, I'm having the same problem with the same scanner. I went to the site and downloaded the update, but when I try to run it, I get two weird error messages: Fatal error, unknown dialog box error; then, when I click OK, I get "No error", but it won't complete! Strange?! Anyone have any suggestions?

I am having the same problems with the same scanner. My cousin has the same scanner and he has problems getting it installed too. The best, and maybe only, option may be to get a different scanner or go back to 98SE. i have attempted every "solution" on these types of "help" pages and none work. The site "bigbill" gives won't even open up for me.

I have the same problem.

In my opinion, MS and HP "must" give us a solution for this problem. Lets mail a lot of claims for these "very capable" people.

P.S.: The site that Bigbill gave doesn´t open for me too.
