My neighbors have been having computer trouble, so I fixed it for them. However, I cannot make their printer work. I can print a test page, but I can not print something from the computer.
I have tried the USB cable in all four USB ports, with two different cables, but with no success.
I also tried uninstalling the printer drivers, then reinstalling them, but that did not work either.
They told me they had put a digital camera memory card into the memory card port on the printer, and it stopped working soon after that.
Any ideas?

Have you tried a parallel port connection to the printer with an old cable? Have you checked the Device Manager to see if the usb hubs are working correctly? Have you checked the usb ports for adequate power voltage? Have you checked in the Control Panel to see if the printer is recognized and working correctly? Try uninstalling the drivers and printer software, then shut down the computer and remove the printer. Reboot the computer and install the drivers from the manufacturer's driver support website, then shutdown the computer. Connect the printer, then reboot and see if "plug and play" will detect and install the printer as new hardware using the downloaded drivers. Some printers require the software to be loaded before the printer is installed, perhaps this is one of them.

I have not checked in the device manager to see if the USB ports are qorking adequately.
Once when the computer restarted, Windows detected the printer as new hardware, and installed drivers for it, but it still does not print.
I'll try drivers from the Web site and checking the USB ports. Thanks

Had same problem with my HP Photosmart 7350
Works great now. I failed to follow instructions "to the letter". Suggest placing HP cd into CD drive, click on Uninstall.
Very important.. disconnect printer and DO NOT connect til the HP software tells you to.
Now install HP Photosmart software. Connect power converter to printer WHEN told to do so. Turn on printer and THEN connect the USB cable. Allow HP software to continue to fully install. It looks like it's stopped at times, just let it "do it's thing". Hope this helps..
