Can I take my HP Pavilion Recovery CD and somehow use it on a computer that is not a HP, I can't seem to get it to work. A message keeps coming up that it can only be used on HP computers.

The recovery CD searches for information on a non-dos partition that HP puts on all its computers. If the info on that partition isn't there, then it won't install. You'd be better off just to download an OEM version from the net or buy it.
