HP Pavilion Mouse: Unknown Device

After recently getting odd freeze ups with my mouse, I thought I'd try to unplug it, and plug it back in. After doing this, apon restart my computer detected the mouse as an 'Unknown Device'. I've tried to update the driver by locating the 'c:\windows\options\cabs' folder, but it doesn't seem to find any file there.
If I remove the unknown device in Device manager, the plug in and play deetects it and doesn't ask to search / locate the driver like usually hardware does.
The mouse is the HP mouse that comes with the HP Pavilion 7865.

I tried system restore, and that didn't work. I'm having to use a twitchy optical mouse at present, that seemed to install perfectly.
Do you know where the mouse drivers are located for this device? I've tried installing Logitech MouseWare, it recognized the device as a mouse, but the mouse still didn't work.
