I have an HP Pavilion computer, model 7845, that is about to be out of warranty. I have an option to purchase an extended service plan from HP. The cost is about $209 for 3 years for depot service, where they send you a box and you send it in for repair, and $315 for 3 years of in-home service. Has anyone here had an extended service plan from HP? I was wondering if anyone had an opinion of which plan I should get or has any personal experience they could share with me to help me decide if I want to spend the additional $100 for in-home service. I don't know how long I'd be without my computer if I shipped it in for service or if it might get damaged in shipping. If anyone can give me their advice on this, esp. if you have experience or have purchased a plan from them, I'd appreciate it.

hello
if your a novice with computers get the bigest waranty extion with the most service you can get.
if your real expieanced.and can and dont mied fixing the thing your self got with less.
have a nice day

I used to own a Compaq...after the warranty
expired...I called up Compaq & purchased a
1 yr extended warranty.(with in home service)
The reason was every time when the computer
was not working...i called up Compaq right
away...& within 3 business day...a technician
fm Compaq would come over to my house & had
the parts changed instead of fixing it."If I
remember it right...I called up Compaq for 2
times...1st time for motherboard...2rd time
for modem." So, my suggestion is " in home services" a must, save u a lot of time. But,
if u have to purchase 3 yrs instead of 1 yr,
think again, unless u r planning to keep the comp for a while. Good luck.

No, I don't have to purchase 3 years. I can get 1, 2, or 3 years. It's just cheaper by the year to get 3 years of service. The contract is transferrable, as well, if I decided to get rid of the computer. So, that's another point I guess I should consider, is if I want to keep it for 3 more years. LOL.

Depends....
Ive owned many HP pc's since windows 95. I have never had to service anything. The only problems ive had is with recovery disks and these were solved by purchasing a copy of windows. If your not comfortable inside the computer get the warranty. The advantage of in home is that if the problem is easily solved you never have to move the machine. If its something the feild tech cant solve the unit ends up going back with him anyway or atleast the damaged part. You will still lose your pc for a while but you wont have to bother with shipping. Its only a $100.00 difference. Chances are you will never need someone to come out but its better to be safe than sorry.
The PC you have is fairly recent. I would assume you could easily get 5 years of use out of it before needing something latest greatest.
