I just bought a new PIII 500 chip. My system runs under Windows ME. My motherboard (BX6 V2)has an old bios version that do not support the Pentium III 500. What should I do to upgrade my BIOS with Windows ME. Really need help. Thanks

You need to use a bootable disk and a bios flash program like ptflash. Windows really has nothing to do with it. There should be instructions on the site where you download your bios and a program to run it. Search for a site under "upgrading bios" and follow the instructions carefully.

First to get it to run with the new chip enter your BIOS setup. Find the settings for the processor. Set the Front Side Bus to 100 Set the multiplier to 5. These will go in under MANUAL USER SETTINGS!! When you download the .BIN (new BIOS) and the flash utility from Abit they will have the directions listed there. Create a folder in C:\ called "BIOS" into it put the flash utility and the .BIN file. Click on the .BIN to auto expand it. If you don't have a Windowz startup disk create one in add/remove programs. Boot the machine with this disk and get to a prompt by selecting "Start computer without CDROM support" at the A:\ type "C:" this will switch you to C drive. Next at the C:\ type "CD BIOS" now you will be in that folder. Type the name of the flash programm at the C:\BIOS\"AWFLASH"(i'm not sure if that is the one). Follow the instructions to REPROGRAM. You will have to type in the name of the .BIN like 12134.BIN. After complete remove your boot floppy than Ctrl+Alt+Del...
Enter the BIOS and reset it to default first then check all of the settings so that your system works correctly. You might want to copy the ones in it down before you start all of this!!!.......Over and Out!!

Thank you for your great help. I did it and everything works great.

Could you also tell me if it
is normal that when I booted up the system for the very first time (After having installed the new processor (pentium III 500))the system recognized the processor as an Pentium III 333? I had to write the new processor informations on the CMOS.
