I've just installed WinMe on my second HD.

It work fine, the VGA is autodetected and
the sound loud nicely.

But, the performance is terribly bad. It caused by System Restore capabilities. I've checked the "System Restore Disabled" item on "File System settings.". But, unfortunately, the System Restore still active. How could this happen ?

How to turn off this "damn" things ? Cause I not need this one.

Is there anyone could help me ?

I am pretty sure you can diable the system restore by going into the control panel and selecting "Scheduled Tasks." Right click on "PCHealth Scheduler for Data Collection" select properties, and then at the very bottom of the window, uncheck that box. That should solve that problem for you. Good luck.

- Right click on "My Computer"
- Choose "Properties"
- Go to the "Performance"-tab
- Click on the "File System..."-button
- Go to the "Trouble Shooting"-tab
- Check the box at "Disable System Restore"
- Click "OK" and "OK" again
- Restart your computer if prompted

I'm pretty sure this is the only way to disable "System Restore"... :-)

I have Win Me and I hate system restore it is impossible to disable it in windows and it is always running inthe background (even if disabled) eating up resources! , so what you need to do is make a start disk and put a program called attrib on it (you can find it by going to search and typing attrig and searching on c: ) use the disk to boot to dos (option 4 minimal boot) and type the following:-
attrib -r -h -s
del _restore

After you re-boot to windows you will now be able to also remove pchealth if you like .
I have done these things and only use taskmon , systray and scanreg loading at startup and have 98% system resources free!.

I was able to turn off System Restore to check performance differences, but now I want to turn it back and WindowsME will not let me do it. It says it is on, but when I go to test it, it won't work... Any ideas?

Thanks!

Try going to "START/RUN", type "msconfig", click on "startup" tab, check the box next to "PCHealth".
This will cause it to load at start-up, providing you didn't follow Simon's instructions and delete it :).

There is another easy way
1. boot in msdos with starup diskette
2. delete the _restore directory
3. create a file named _restore.
4. reboot...
that's all folks ;)
