Okay, thanks for reading this. I need to remove some icky stuff from my machine, got that info on "how to" elsewhere here.
But to do it completely, I need to start my computer in SAFE MODE. Now, I have been to SAFE MODE before, but was never there on purpose (post screams: NEWBIE DOPE WHO THINKS THE START BUTTON, KEYBOARD AND CURSOR IS ALL YOU NEED TO RUN A COMPUTER!)
Okay, so any help anyone can give me here would be very much appreciated and I'll also come back and let you know how it goes. We just went through two days of a major Trojan Horse Army invasion and got everything except this one thing, using spyware, anti-virus and sometimes our wits by process of elimination, but could use a little help here now.

After the machine runs through it's POST (Power-on Self Test), and BEFORE Windows loads, press F8. You will then have several options. Select Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking, and the machine will finish booting and go into Safe Mode.
Usually tapping the F8 key at startup will give you the menu - see: Getting into Windows Safe Mode
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.
Wow! Thank you! IT WORKED! The very first time I went in there ON PURPOSE!!! YIPPEEEE! You guys are the greatest!
That's good, it's a handy thing to know. Tapping F5 is another method.
Life is hard; it's harder if you're stupid.
