I have dual boot with Me and xp, I really like it...you don't need any boot set up xp will do it for you.I can't remember if I had a second partition on my drive first, I think xp will do that too, let me do some checking and I'll get back to you.

You are right Sue ...

Just put disk in and install .... it will partition and build your boot.ini file to let you choose which OS you need to go to and couldn't be easier.

XP will do all the dual boot stuff for you, just boot into ME, insert the XP CD and select new installation rather than upgrade.

XP does have a partitioning tool, but this is intended only for deleting partitions and creating new ones on the free space you may have on 1 or more disks.

If you only have 1 hard disk and ME takes up it's entire space: you'll either have to wipe ME off and start again but only use part of the disk for ME; or use a tool such as Partition Magic to reduce the existing ME partition. XP can't do the latter.

Either way, always keep separate OS's on separate partitions.

lo,

come to think about it i was going to buy a new HD and install win2K, and then my old HD will be used to store and transfer files, and play games etc.

I was wondering if i put win2k (i heard it was better than Xp - correct me if i'm wrong) can i choose to boot from my old HD with winMe, or is it just a waste of time cos win2k is far far better for playing games and general stuff?
cheers:D

win 2k pro is horrible with games. i had win 2k pro and it kept on crashing. but i was able to run like 4 or 5 different programs at once (i.e. 3D studio max, photoshop, lightwave, ect.) with no problem. if you wanna run games, then stick with ME.
