How to run scan disc

When I try to do a scan disk it keeps on stopping because something is interupting it.

Run it from safe mode. Right after you press the power button, hold down control and select safe mode. Remember, you cant use usb mice in safe mode, only ps/2.

You may also want to try going to run, msconfig, and clicking everything off in the startup menu. I found that doing this it also seems to run a bit faster.

...here's how you do it without having to go into Safe Mode: 1)set screen saver to 'none'. 2)set wallpaper to 'none'. 3)go to 'Power Options' in Control Panel and set all three options in 'Power Schemes' settings (turn off monitor/turn off hard disks/system stand by)to 'never'. 4)close all programs (press ctrl/alt/del) except 'Explorer' and 'Systray'. ...then run scan disc first and defrag afterward - you'll have no 'interruptions' of either operation.
