Audrius,

Copy and paste, in it's entirety, this page.

Now open notepad and paste ALL the contents of the page you have just copied "into" notepad.

Now save it.

When asked, save it in C:\

AND save it as DELINDEX.BAT

Making sure you that you have .BAT as the extension.

WHEN your in DOS and at the C:\> prompt.

Type, DELINDEX.BAT

Now hit Enter and follow the onscreen instructions.

So that's DELINDEX . BAT, with a dot in between the X and the B of delindex.bat :)

Audrius,

I don't use "Delindex" but, I'll point you to some help, ok.

Here is that little help. See if that helps you. Post back here, and let us know what exactly is happening. That will help us, to figure what's wrong, ok.

Good Luck
p.s. Viking, if you click your link. Wouldn't that begin a download of the delindex.bat ;-) (joshing)

Viking, there are difficulties for me.
When I hit your link "this page", I save this program (delindex)to C disk. When I want to copy delindex to notepad I can not do that:( I am doing something wrong here.

You wrote "WHEN your in DOS and at the C:\> prompt". You mean I must go to start - shut down - restart in ms-dos mode.

(Response 4)Ok, I knew that link, but did not help.

My problem is that I cant delete index.bat file in cookies.

Audrius,

Just click the link, when you see.

:: ÉÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍ»
:: º WELCOME to DELINDEX! º
:: ÈÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍͼ

Place your cursor at the beginning of.

:: ÉÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍ»

Now hold down your left mouse button and highlight ALL the way down to the bottom of the page.

Right down to.

set RenMan=
:
:EXIT

When it's highlighted, RIGHT click and choose COPY.

Open Notepad and select PASTE.

You should see the text from the link now in Notepad, yes ?

Follow the rest of the instructions.

And yes, I mean boot up into DOS and at the C:\> prompt, type

DELINDEX.BAT

Follow the instructions and run the batch file (delindex). Boot back into windows and you will see your Index.DAT file still there.

This is as it should be.

It's been rebuilt when you booted back into windows after running delindex and is the correct size.

Audrius,

Since you are running Win98, if you are just wanting to delete the index.dat file in the cookies folder.

Start...Shut Down...Restart MS-DOS mode (or whatever it says)

Type this;
delxc:\windows\cookies\index.dat

Or change the directory to;
c:\windows\cookies and type;
delxindex.dat

Back to delindex. If you have it at the root of c:\ (that's not in any folders) Restart the computer in DOS, and type; CD\ press enter then delindex press enter

See if it starts. Or you could start your computer with a boot disk, and type;
c:
press enter
delindex
press enter

"My problem is that I cant delete index.bat file in cookies."

I just want to ask, what you mean by that exactly. Do you mean with the delindex, or as I pointed out, how to do it. Curious

Good Luck
Viking, I think you meant to have this, as your link. At least, that's the way it looks.

S.T.A.R. ...your right.

I'm at work and using Firebird and don't get the download, the download shows as the "Click here to look at Delindex 4.2." link.

I haven't checked out SMUOD's site out for a goodly while least of all Delindex.

Should have checked in IE first. Thanks for pointing it out.

Thank you all for the answers.

I want to delete index.bat file in cookies folder because I have this problem:

Every time I want to open my favorite internet sites, allways the same internet site opens, it is called "Internet Filtrado".
But in the address bar there is the name of the site I want to open. But some sites opens correctly. (Hope with Delidex I could clean my computer, already tried many spyware programs, but no solution). It is weird I can not open Win9x forum, thats why I post in this forum.

Back to delindex, when I restart in MS-DOS mode, I get this written:

C:\WINDOWS>(then I type)DELINDEX.BAT (press enter and get this)

bad command or file name.
Could not run delindex anyway.

Audrius,

Go back to "Response Number 7", and look for this entry;

"Back to delindex. If you have it at the root of c:\ (that's not in any folders) Restart the computer in DOS, and type; CD\ press enter then delindex press enter"

and give that a try. If typing delindex, doesn't work. Try delindex.dat

Good Luck,
CrazyOne

p.s. what have you run, to clean up stuff. If you give a list, someone might have something else for you to try.

Yes Viking, now my phone is going crazy. Have to get back to work here also. Or maybe not. Yes better, have to keep the bill collectors away. Later I'll check back Audrius

Ok Audrius, try starting from scratch and run the following online scans.

TrendMicro - Housecall

Panda Active Scan

TrojanScan

You mentioned Spybot and Adaware, make sure they are FULLY updated and run them again.

Still no joy ? (probably not)

Then download and run HijackThis and post the log file. Someone should get round to looking at it.

Audrius forget delindex for the moment.

And I already said -

Follow the instructions and run the batch file (delindex). Boot back into windows and you will see your Index.DAT file STILL there.

This is as it SHOULD be.

It's been REBUILT when you booted back into windows after running delindex and is the correct size.

So just run those scans and the fully updated adaware and spybot for the time being.

Again. If it's still there, use HijackThis and post the log file.

Audrius,

Ok, I've seen that you've tried to get help, in the security forum. I think you need to go back to that forum, and your question. List at the begining, all of the things you have used, to try to solve your problem, and see what they say. Looks as though you were directed here. It looks as though you've went beyond that. So, follow through with a HighJackThis log. That's if you can't figure things out, with the tutorial page. The link to it, is at the same place it's downloaded.

I really have to go. I'm typing two words, and answering the phone after :-) then two more. This doesn't work very well

One method I ocasionally use to delete the index.dat file is to use Windows Explorer and browse to C:\WINDOWS\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\ and delete the Content.IE5 folder. Windows will re-create the folder the next time you load Windows.
You cannot empty the recycle bin (at least the index.dat file) untill you reboot and Windows creates a new one.

These stand out, and should be fixed (in my opinion) Have a question, is

Fore the others, nothing stands out. For me anyway. Someone hopefully, will give you a second opinion.
