Comment:

I am the sole user of my computer, and I made my boot-up logon free (after reading computing.net)

It works, but I still have my old user name when I click the Start button. It says "Log off *my username*...

Any idea how to remove it? =I

I think this is what you mean;
Click Start , point to Settings , and then click Taskbar & Start Menu .

On the Advanced tab, click to select the Display Logoff check box in the Start Menu Settings box.

*or you can right-click in any empty space on the taskbar,and select properties to view these options

Or,you should be able to do it in the registry;
Start/Run/type regedit/click OK...look for
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Policies/Explorer.
From the Menubar - Edit - New - BinValue where the Name is NoLogOff and the binary value is 01 00 00 00 to disable it,
00 00 00 00 to enable.

*always back it up first,b4 making changes

That was a very fast reply! THanks I appreciate it very much

What you suggested works, but I was thinking of having the log off option in the start menu, but without my stupid username......

I dont know if that is possible...is it?

Yeah,that reg tweak does the same thing,but no sense foolin' with it until you're comfortable with regedit,and it's something you can do with a couple of Mouse-Clicks.(I'm still a registry rookie myself).But,I don't think you can have you're cake and eat it too,on this one.
Anyone,feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Good Luck

***You can also do this,and many other things with TweakUI...get it here;

There is always going to be a username in the LogOff option.

At this point, you are acutally Logged in... you just didn't have to physically type in your username and password. By clicking OK to log in using the Windows password you have created a Null password indicating to Windows that you do not wish to type in a username and password every time. But you are still logged in with your "stupid username".

You could create a Non-stupid username and set that as the default log in... *shrug*. An idea anyway.:)

Log off using your name. The system will restart and a login window will pop up. Just click on Cancel and let it load. Your name would have vanished and onlu Log off will show.

But it will disable auto password entering and you will have to reenter it in all login places.

If you log off, then click cancel... then you are not logged in any more. So, you do not get the benifits of being logged in... like saving your dial up password for instance.

So... if you are logged in... it will show a log in name there.
