How to make Windows 98 look like WinMe

I have tried every which way to install WinMe and after resolving many issues I was left with unresolved "Kernel has caused an error in user32.dll" messages.

So I am back to tried and "trusted" Windows 98:(

I did however like the look and feel of WinMe so I have installed IE5.5 and media player and made a note of the desktop color settings to emulate the cool blue desktop.

I have even copied logo.sys to the root to remind me of what I am missing at startup!

What I cannot do is transfer the 3d Icons
of "my computer" and "Internet Explorer" and "Recycle Bin" as they not a shortcuts.

I have the Norton Utils 2001 recycle bin icon to make it more complicated. The norton bin is the old green angled shape with the 'n' superimposed.

Shortcuts are no problem except that some of the 3D icons appear blurred. - I have disabled active desktop!

There are other issues such as the side bar on the start menu and the closedown screen that still show Windows 98. Fine if there is a fix however my question is how can I change Win98 to WinMe 3D icons without installing WinMe?

TIA

You can customize the icons to look like WinMe or any OS with IconPackager. Download the program from the link below:

http://www.stardock.com/products/iconpackager/

While you're there, download WindowBlinds and change the entire "look and feel" of Windows.

Frank,
Forget about Windows Me. Stick with Win98se for now (It is the lesser of the 2 evils). I managed to get mine working as i am using it right now but it is very quirky on the internet and it has problems with power
management. The Beta copy of WIN Me that i
originally tried worked great and i had very
little problems with it, but this full final
version really sucks!!! I am really really
sorry that i bought this piece of garbage.
The Motherboard i am using this on is a Diamond Micronics C-200 (BCM Advanced research VP1541) K6-2/500cpu, Diamond
Stealth III S540 Graphics card, Ensoniq Audio
Pci and a US Robotics Winmodem PCI and a Maxtor 7200 rpm 20gb hdd. and 128mb Spec-Tek ram. This system ran great with Win 98se and i think i will revert back to it.!!!
