I have been having problems with my computer and was told that i need to install windows me 'on top of itself'. The current problem with my computer will not let me get into windows and every option in my 'safe mode screen list' causes the computer to restart itself, so do i do it through setup or what. Please help asap it is urgent and is much appreciated.

Do a clean install, otherwise you will create more problems than you solve.

I would suggest the same thing, but if you are wanting to save your programs and files I would just go ahead and install on top of itself. What's the worst it will do? Make you have to format and install. I have installed ME on top of itself and other than having to reinstall software that needs to write themselves to the registry, I haven't had much of any problems with it.
All you should have to do is just boot up with the WinME cd in the drive. That is of course assuming that you have your boot sequence set up to boot with the CD first. Or if you would rather, you can create yourself an ultimate boot disk and then start up with that. It has a great installation program that is included with it.
Hope it all works out for ya,

Insert your WIN-ME cd, browse by clicking MY COMPUTER, double click drive, double click Setup.exe. Answer questions.

Try this- boot with your boot disk, choose option 2 or 3. At the a:\ prompt type c: and hit enter, then at the c:\ prompt type cd c:\windows\options\install. (note the space between cd and c:\),Hit enter again then type setup, enter once more and windows setup should start. HTH Len
