I have a dell dimensions pentium 100 computer fairly old but runs good anyways i had to reinstall windows 98 and now i it finds all the device drivers but the modem and i dont know how to identify what kind of modem it is. i think its a pci card modem but im not sure it might be on the motherboard. anyways i went to dell site for drivers and they did not have any drivers under communication devices so im assuming this pci card was added after it was bought. someone had it before i did. so please can someone tell me how to identify this modem so i can download the drivers off the internet thank you so much

I'm sure you've tried this, but anyway:
right click my computer, left click properties, left click device manager, left click the + next to modem, should tell you.
Or:
start>settings>control panel> modem.
Or:
start>run>(type in)msinfo32.exe>ok>components>modem.
Maybe one of these will work.

hello
you could allso download the belarc advisor
it gives you allmost all system and hard ware info i use it its truble free and free

call up the dell technical support. these guys are gr8!
(i was one of em).... :-)those guys would have the name of the driver file which would be there in your resource CD.

or, just gimme the service tag of your system
5-7 digit alphanumeric code situated on the back or side panel of your system. and i will give u the links for all the driver reinstallation guides.

OOOOoooooooooooooooops !!!!
sorryyyyyyyyyyy!!!!
i didnt read ur mssg completly!!!
u can identify ur modem by the msinfo32.exe utility.........
or u could also just use the standard modem drivers, they hv always worked for me!

Both msinfo32 (system information) and Belarc advisor will read the registry and find you have a "PCI communication device". Neither one will identifiy unknown devices.
The two ways to find out what kind of modem you have are:
1. Call the person that had it last and ask.
2. Open up the case and have a look at what is written on the chipset. Then do some investigating on the net to figure it out.

One thing to try is going to the manufacturers website, and searching for that particular model's specifications. There is almost always a specs page, which will tell you exactly what sort of modem is in your machine.
To determine whether or not this is an onboard modem, OPEN UP THE MACHINE !! *smiles*
If its NOT an onboard, it is a very simple procedure to pull out the modem, and look for manufacturing indications.
Should you find out what company makes your modem, you can go to www.driverguide.com to download the drivers.
If you give me yoru make and model, I can round up some useful URL's for you.
GOOD LUCK !
