Hi, I just want to know how to disable the windows logon prompt at startup and so far I have tried many things but no use. First I changed the Network option from Clients for Microsoft networks to Windows logon and it still is the same and then I deleted the *.pwl password file and then restarted and hit ok the first time after rebooting again it still comes up with my username and I have to cancel it everytime. can anyone please let me know how to get rid of it. Thanks

What you did should have worked (although you I think should click OK and not cancel for the first time after deleting all PWL files) Anyhoo, if all else fails just install TweakUI to have it log you in automatically, at least you'll boot all the way to the desktop.

All you have to do is Click Start, Settings, Control panel, passwords. Click on Change Windows Password. type in old password and leave other blank. Deleting the pwl file only resets it. You dont need Tweakui either!

I followed your advice and went to "Control Panel -> Passwords. There IS no option for "Change Windows Password". All there is is a tab for "User Profiles"..there is no mention of passwords in the profiles.

Add an entry to the registry. HK_LM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Currentversion\policies\network. Create a new string value called "DisablePwdCaching" set the value to 1. Restart the Pc and the logon window should not pop up. visit...http://www.lib.uaa.alaska.edu/nuga-archive/0724.html
