How to disable onboard sound card

I am trying to disable the onboard sound card on a friends compaq 5000 presario. When I go into BIOS, there are only 3 settings that it can be change to...but it can't be disbled... How can this sound card be disbled to install new sound card?

Maybe if you uninstall the sound drivers, stick in the PCI sound card and install it's drivers. Don't you just love Compaq computers ?

There could be an 'enable/disable' jumper on the motherboard...check the motherboard manual

the problem is known to me, me always reinstalls drivers for detected hardware, even if removed in advance at any start up.

you can best insert the new soundcard and install the drivers for it.
windows will choose automatically for the latest installed sound card.

Where's the any key?
