Are you wanting to stop programs from accessing the internet while you are on the internet? or are you wanting to kill programs that are running while you are on the internet regardless to whether they access the web or not?

For the first, I would recommend downloading ZoneAlarm. ZoneAlarm is a Free Firewall for personal use. It prevents programs from accessing the web unless you permit them. After you first install the program, you may notice several programs trying to access the web. After a while, you will have ZoneAlarm configured and it shouldn't ask you to permit or deny access to programs, unless you update the version. You can also change these settings at will. Go to www.downloads.com and search for zonealarm and download and install it.

If this is an issue of programs that are running and you don't want them to, you have several options. If you are using the programs and want to use them on a regular basis, the last Response is correct, you can press Control Alt and Delete at the same time, this will bring up a window, wherefrom you can select which programs you want to run (Explorer must be running and some others depending on what you are doing). If, however, everytime you boot up you end up with a bunch of stuff running that you don't want to run and want to kill you can do the following: click, START then RUN. Type in "msconfig" from here, you can select the STARTUP tab and select things you don't want to run. If you are not sure of what you want running, I recommend the following link: www2.whidbey.com/djdenham/uncheck.htm This site has some useful information on programs that might be in the Run location of the registry.

By unchecking these items you can use the computer and determine if the programs you have killed are necessary or not, if not and you want to perminantly remove them there are steps you can take. If it is a STARTUP item, simply delete it from the Startup Folder, if it is anything else, you need to edit the registry.

If you futher want to remove these items from the registry Email me for more information.
