Does anyone know how to permanently remove an icon from the system tray (that area at the bottom right hand corner of the sreen). I am getting some icons there which I really dont need and would like to remove them without affecting the programs associated with them.

You will have to disable them internally. Often programs have a remove from tray option in their advanced set-up
the onky other way to do it is to edit the registry.. however that wil totally disable the application...

Responses 3 & 4 are correct. Stay away from the registry.

Thank you all for your help. I followed the path of O and ( in responses 3 and 4. The operation so far has been successful with no apparent adverse affects to my system. I tentatively removed one of the icons I didn't need and it's not there any more. Jonny made an interesting point that there was the potential of creating problems if this was not done correctly so I made a system restore point before making any changes.
Once again thank you. This is the first time I have used the Internet to get help and I must say I am really impressed.
