I have installed a new harddrive and would like to remove the old one. But, before I do that, I would like to know how to copy everything that is on the old hardrive to the new one?
Thanks in advance

Most harddrives come with an install disk that will include a copy appliation. IF not, you can probably download one from the manufacturer website.

Setup the old drive as Slave to copy on new drive and use the manufacturer bootable diskette as Dave stated.Make sure you check the jumper setting on new drive:Master to copy but may be Single(drive) after you remove old drive.Look jumper settings on hard drive case.Good luck.

hi leigh1, when you say Copy Everything, do you mean to clone the drive, or do you just want to save certain files?

If you mean that you want to copy the operating system and have it run the PC from the new drive, then you will need a cloning program like Norton Ghost or Powerquest Drive Image. If you want just to copy data files, then set the second drive as a slave and copy them like you always copied files, using Windows Explorer.

Go to this site and it is the easiest way to copy your hard drive and without spending any money. I have used this method many, many times and all successfully.

1. set up yor new drive as a slave using jumper on drive (fdisk and (partition it if required) format it first of course)
DONT forget to set the primary partition as active (from fdisk)
2. boot on you old drive click start, run,
and type exactly this

xcopy32 c:\. d:\ /e/c/h/r/k hit enter and sit back and watch it all happen.
explanation of switches
/e copies folders even if empty
/c copy contininues after errors
/h copies hidden folders and system files
/r over-writes read only files
/k preserves file attributes
after its all over. remove your old drive( or set it up as d:,in any case keep it intact till you check afer this:- install your new drive as C Using the jumpers set to master and it should boot up just like the old one.
GOOD LUCK
