Reboot means restart - maybe you mean format & reinstall? Requires the CD and probably a bootdisk

Sue,
I use this procedure instead of fdisk or format when I have a problem or virus and don't want to lose data, especially the info I keep in My Documents:

Boot from Me boot disk
At A:\ type [C:\] [enter]
At C:\ type [deltree windows] [enter]
this will take some time
At C:\ type [attrib -s -h -r] [enter]
At C:\ type [del *.*] [enter]
Press [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[Del] and let the computer restart with the boot disk.

Insure your bios is set to boot off the floppy drive, cdrom drive, and hdd in this order before you start this hassle.

When you restart your computer make sure you select the option to start with cdrom support.

Type X:\setup where "X" is the drive designation of the cdrom that contains your Me install disk. e.g., if it used to be e:, now it will be f:

Me will now give you a fresh install, however the data on your drives will remain intact.

You will need to reinstall all drivers and all programs that ran under windows. Make sure you have your cd collection close at hand.

btw, it is not my intention to come off as condescending. I've noticed however, in my short time at this forum that few people read the FAQ's and other sections that can solve their problems. My instructions relect the fact that I've screwed up everything I've touched in the last few years. And, I'm tired of losing data just because I'm stupid.

Please read all replys to your problems carefully on this forum. Some will be correct, some incorrect. Much of the help you find here will come from people much more expeienced than I am. Unfortunately some will also come from those with less.

Back to the subject, this is a pretty long experience as I have outlined but it is worth every minute if you have data you can't do without.

Partion Magic has always been a fickle program with me. One day it'll save me 8 hours...next day it'll ruin me.

Best of luck and you'll be up and running

It's only 11. PM will still be on your hard drive and all your partitions will remain as they are now. My previous instructions will tell your machine:
1. It don't got windows

2. It's got windows

You'll surely have to reinstall all the progams you currently run under windows in order to have everything function. If you have any problems post back. It's a 100 degree day in Fresno and I gotta make a beer run.

My System Restore Froze, lost wierd things It could not even find System Restore, Electrical went out while on computer in Win Me, did some wierd stuff, all my programs were there and working but no scandisk, no restore, and in control panel no windows installed components, no dir x, and no help files did search and everything, yet my data was there and the up screen, even tried scanreg /restore and still had problems, so really needed to reinstall windows to make sure everything worked, so the above was a life saver. Normally I would agree, but I tried and did not work. Sue"

if yours is a proprietary system eg. compaq/gateway/HP/etc with a default insstall there may be a restore partition that you can use in stead of a cd..
