I'm running WinME, with PhotoDeluxe 2.0. I scanned a 1 page document using an HP ScanJet 4100C scanner and HP Precision Scan LT v. 1.0 software. This sotware sent the scanned document to PhotoDeluxe as a .pdd file. The size of the .pdd file is 1.8MB. I then used PhotoDelux to convert the .pdd file to a .pdf file. The .pdf file is 1.6MB. This .pdf file should not be that large. How to I make is smaller? It's just 1 page scan.

You have to choose a lower resolution in your scanner settings less dots per inch. Also if you are scanning in text doc's use OCR software like OmniPage.

I changed the settings from 300dpi to 50dpi. This was to grainy. I settled on 100dpi so the printed hardcopy is still readable. But the size is still 392KB. That still is way to large for just 1 page.

Any thoughts?

When I save it as a jpg it is to large to fit on my screen. What I mean is, I view it using a web browser and I can only view about 1/4 of the document. I have to scroll up/down and Left/Right to view the whole thing.

My goal is to take this document that I have in my hand in hardcopy and email it to others so they can store it on there hard drive or print a hardcopy for themselves.

PDF isn't the best format to email any document in, however if you really want to use it, Acrobat Exchange can scan the document directly. Your colleagues will need acrobat reader or exchange to read the document.

If you have no colour on the document, scan in b/w or perhaps greyscale.
