From your motherboard's secondary ide connection you should have a flat ide cable with 3 connectors. The first connector plugs into the motherboard. The connection in the middle is the slave and the end connection is the master. On the cd-rom you should make sure the tiny plastic jumper is set correctly to make it the master. You should see a small diagram somewhere telling you where to put the jumper, maybe a sticker. Plug the cd-rom into the end connector on the ide cable to make it master. The combo drive's plastic jumper pin should be set as slave and the drive should be plugged into the center connector on the ide cable.

After your sure that jumpers are set correctly and that the cable is seated in the motherboard/ and drives you should turn on the computer. Windows should atleast see them both as generic cd-roms. If windows is not seeing either one..

check your connections and jumpers again. if they are correct check to make sure the pins in the ide connectors on the motherboard are not bent or broken. Do the same with the drives while your at it.

If they all look ok try swapping ide cables. Its possible the ide cable was damaged while removing it. The connectors teeth sometimes pull away from the cable causing it not to work. Ive had this happen a few times because of multiple plugging and unpluggin of drives.

If you get the drives recognized by windows.. Install drivers or software for the combo drive. The cd-rom should be seen. If windows loads a generic driver i wouldnt worry about looking for model specific drivers.

I hope this helps. Good Luck.

I had the same issue when I installed a CD/DVD drive. The fix was making the DVD drive the master on the secondary ide drive. I had gotten that from the tech support.

Maybe check with your tech support to make sure.
