i have heard that win me has nearly completely got rid of dos. which is annoying because if you were ever wanting to remove ME like i want to at the moment you cannot get into dos to delete it. the only way dos can be accessed is through the use of a boot disk. The only other suggestion is by going to the start button going to programs, then accessories then running msdos prompt which isnt really as good as real dos but may be worth a try!!!!!, that may work, I hope I have been of help to you :o)

It's true, Windows Me pitched all the DOS routines. I've looked into the DOS patches, haven't tried them, but they might work. If you don't want to do that, you can make a startup disk and modify it a little. Windows Me also took out a bunch of DOS commands - you can only system-format a hard disk, not a floppy, and the SYS command only works on hard disks as well. The moral is, I hate Windows Me. Windows 98, 95, NT, and 2000 are all better in my opinion - mainly faster and more reliable. I never did like Windows much anyway...maybe I should stop that train of thought before I start another argument...

I just built a 600 Duron sys using ME as the operating sys. I also use a number of dos biz aps, as well as ZTwin (a really great dos file manager/text editor). There is a simple way to run dos pgms on ME. Right click Start, then click Explore. Once it opens, locate the folder where you installed your dos pgm. Highlight the exe file that starts the pgm running. Then right-click and create a shortcut and move the shortcut to your desktop. To run your dos pgm, simply double-click the shortcut. If you don't like having lots of clutter on your desktop, move your shortcuts My Briefcase by right-clicking the shortcut and using the Send-to option.
Sigh ... I sure miss the old days when I could use Edlin or Edit to make batch file and get where I wanted far, far quicker than running through the Microsoft Maze.
Hope this helps you.

What I did was use Partition Magic 6.0 to split my hard drive, Then used Boot Magic to install Win ME and Win 98 on the same drive.
Which I use Win 98 to run my DOS games.
COOL !!

Windows Me does not support real mode (MS-DOS) functions.
