I installed an update from iden for my motorola cell phone. Then I plugged the USB cord I was sent to update the phone. I plugged up the phone and the "new hardware" was installed and I updated the program on the phone. Don't know if that has anything to do with the problem. After all of this my computer now has horizontal lines on it. I have checked the monitor and it is fine. It is something with the software or hardware in the computer. The lines are like a shadow of the writing on the monitor or windows such as ones for putting in information. The picture on my desktop is fine. I have tried everyting HP told me. Resetting the display properties, reinstalling the monitor and display adapter nothing has worked. The only suggestion I didn't try was to restore. I don't have a restore point to use and I don't want to lose all the programs I have installed. Any suggestions?

When the computer boots up press F8 to get the choice of booting to VGA 16 colours:this is called Safe Mode.Notice if the problem is gone.If so the video drivers are the wrong ones.Check the System Properties for hardware exclamation marks(!).If any try making corrections.Good luck.

I've tried starting in safe mode and the lines are still there. I have no exclamation points in the system properties. I think the video is onboard not a slot.

Are you lucky enough to have access to another moniter if so,if it works ok then you have a bad monitor if not you have a bad onboard video or video card. You may unplug your moniter card from your PC and find a bad or bent pin.You may also need to tighten your moniter to PC connection.Sometimes they wiggle loose a little. Best of luck!!!
