I have a Compaq Presario notebook AMD K6 366 mhz w/160 mb ram. Win98SE bombed so I decided to reformat & go with ME. I am very happy so far but I cannot get my machine to come out of hibernation. It goes in fine but when I try to return to Windows, the keyboard & pointer freeze & I get KERNEL32 has caused error in USER.exe KERNEL32 will now close. I have to hard boot to get my system back. MS help is no help. I was told to disable hibernate. Can anyone help me?

Check your bios settings for Hibernate. Make sure that it can support it, and check the resume commands in your manual.
Don't overload the system when it wakes up, just press space to resume and wait for it.
Check for a generic hybernation partition on the hard drive, a special partition rather then a file, they could be conflicting.
Check the mfg web site for info as well.
Make sure you have the latest drivers for your system devices.
When waking up, try it with as little periferal devices as you can

Hibernation is a major problem with ME. Many machines have problems with it and lots of times it is caused by video drivers. There may be nothing you can really do about it.

Thanks, I have loaded all the latest drivers, active desktop turned off, no partition, bios OK, graphics hardware acceleration set to minimum, no external devices hooked up. I guess MS was right!
I will just turn hibernate off & live with it.
