I want to get rid of the windows logon box that pop's up at boot up. Please tell me how. I had it set not to come up; but all of a sudden it started popping up on the screen. Dunno why??? I run Win Me. Thanks!!

Windows password box on boot up? This fix that i know involves hacking the registry. You have to go to HKEY LOCAL MACHINE and then delete the Network folder completely.
If you're not familiar with the registry i wouldnt advise you to go there but if you're comfortable then back it up first before you do any modifications.
After deleting the Network folder, you have to reboot, you'd get the logon window again, you have to leave the password blank and press ok. That would be the last time you'd see it.
Hope this helps. Let me know if this fixes your problem.

In Control Panel, click on Network. Under "Primary Network Logon," select "Windows Logon." Restart, and you shouldn't have to mess with the logon box.

Oh ok; I am not too sure about going into the registry just yet. I am learning to work on my system slowly; but surely. I just don't want to cause any major problems by going into the registry. I tried to do the network thing that the second person recommended; but it still pop's up? I also can not save my password in my dial up box for my internet. The place for my password is shaded out in gray? This has just happened; I never had this happen? I need to get it to where I can save my password again. I would appreciate any help! THANKS!

By the way I have a choice in that drop down box under networking. It is Windows Logon & the other one is Client for Microsoft Networks. I made sure that Windows Logon was in it. Any ideas please send them my way! :(

Do you have a Windows password? In Control Panel > Passwords, you can change your password to nothing -- just enter your old password, and put nothing in the two boxes below them (nothing - not even a space), and it should say password successfully changed. Then try restarting again. Once you don't get the logon box and you enter your internet password, if you click save password & log on automatically, hopefully it'll all save so you 1) won't get the windows logon box and 2) won't have to enter your internet password every time you restart the computer. Hope this helps.

I do not have a place to change a password in the password box under control panel. It says all users can share preferences or the other option is to customize the settings for others. Where else would I find a place to change it?

The place I was thinking of was "Change Windows Password" after you click on Passwords in Control Panel. If it's not there, I'm not sure what to do.

-seach for *.pwl
-delete them all
start>run>msconfigpress enter
click on SYSTEM.INI
click on the check mark next to PASSWORD LISTS, then click oin apply and click yes to restart.
when it boots up again, enter a user name but don't enter a password and click OK.

IF you don't have an option to change passwords in your Settings\Control Panel\Passwords then they(Password) are not set as yet I'd say or they have gotten deleted :-( You should be able to just click OK(WITH OUT PUTTING IN A PASSWORD) when it comes up the next time and it should be gone after that. And as for your dial-up password should become active after this and also be able to check remember pasword. At least it sounds to me that is what is happening.

The easiest thing to do is just type in a different name (John, Bob, Superman, whatever) in the user name line and then don't enter anything for a password, just hit enter. As long as you don't use Log Off when you shut down, the Log On box won't come back.

Just delete Microsoft networking altogether from network properties, you dont need it unless you are File and Print sharing anyway and it slows your PC down a bit. It might even resolve your problem.

Thanks alot for the help! I finally got rid of it! I appreciate all of the help!!!!

start>setting>control panel>network. configure windows logon in primary network logon . click OK. when prompted to restart, click NO. then go to control panel>password. go to users profile. tick all users use same pref and desktop setting.
then close. start search>files. type *.pwl
right click each file and rename with .old extn. now restrat computer.
