Our computer froze, so we shut it down (hit button on CPU) then of course it started back in safe mode. It tried to system restore, but only got halfway through, then quit. We shut it back down, then when it came on, there was only a black screen and a cursor. Shut down again, back up in safe mode but can't restore. ARGH! What now?? Any ideas?? Please?? Thanks!

Put your Windows Start Up Floppy in A drive turn on get the a: prompt at the a: prompt type c: then you get a c: prompt type this scanreg /restore make sure you leave the space between g & /, it should scan the reg and show couple of dates to pick restore to before the problem occured.....If you can get it back up you need to check your System Restore out and make sure it is running, by setting a Restore Point Manually, look up Restore Point on Help Tab, good information on there, you might check and see if you need any updated at Windows Update site too.

If the restore operation did not complete successfully, use a boot disk when you turn your computer on. It should tell you that there was an incomplete restoration, and will do something to fix it.

I have used restore a couple of times and it appeared to get half way through then stop working. I terminated the program and had to reload some programs. Others have reported on here cutting off the restore half way through it's function and having the same problem.
I now believe it hadn't stopped working
(the blue progress bar is a bit inaccurate)
and I should have left it for at least 40 mins before messing with the PC.
If you fix the problem, post back here for others to see.
Thanks
