Hi All,
I just recently noticed that my free hard disk space went from 7 GB to 700 MB. When I click on the Properties of my "Program Files", "My Documents" and my "WINDOWS" folders their size suddenly changes right before me.
I tried Scandisk and Defrag and there is not memory to carry out the tasks. I also tried Scandisk with the Windows ME Start-up disk and I keep getting the message that there is a problem with the file TEMPOR~\CONTENT.IE5\TJB3T9GE.
I'm not the most computer savvy and I have no clue what to do next. Any help is appreciated.
Thank you.

First off, you need to think about viruses/malware
I recommend download this free program called avast (www.avast.com) it helped me out yesterday when norton 360 couldn't

Hello cris27,
Older versions of word had a problem with a word template , that if corrupt , would fill the disk , the fix was ;
search for all occurances of " normal.dot and delete , reboot and a new uncorrupt normal.dot replacement will be there .
and then clean up with CCleaner .

Run scandisk and defrag from safe mode.
Open 'internet options' and delete all your temporary internet files.

Hi guys,
Thanks a lot for your quick help. I tried out all your answers and unfortunately none of them have worked.
JackFrost46, I tried your solution first and I did a search on my files/folders and deleted the normal.dot. I rebooted and I downloaded CCleaner and I ran and cleaned everything including my registry.
notyouraccount, I downloaded avast! and I did a thorough scan on my hard drive and 2 infected files popped up: msefoi.dll and mshlol.dll. I put them in the Virus Chest, but should I delete them?
DAVEINCAPS, I previously tried running in safe mode and doing scandisk and defrag, the problem is that they get stuck. I keep getting the message that there is no memory left to perform.
I'm frustrated, but I really do appreciate everyone's help. CCleaner and avast! seem to be very excellent and thorough programs, the problem is that I think ever since I installed them, my computer can't restart properly. It gets stuck and I have to manually press the restart button. Any ideas?

What's the exact wording of the message? That will tell us if it's hard drive space or ram that it's running low on.
When choosing 'properties' of folders--especially large ones--it takes a few seconds for windows to read all their info. As it reads it the folder size gets larger.
Go to ACCESSORIES--SYSTEM TOOLS--DISK CLEANUP (that's the route for 98 as that's what I've got running right now. I think it's the same for ME) and delete all the temp files.
You can hit CTRL-ALT-DEL and see what tasks are running that may be clogging things up.

hello cris27 , you should take your problem to the security and virus forum straight away as msefoi.dll and mshlol.dll. are issues that need the expert advice you will find there !

Windows ME , needs a restart , would this be the first boot of the day ? , this is a common quirk of Me , to fix this , boot from a Me boot disk , choose option 4 minimal boot , from the a:> prompt type cd c: and press enter to c:\> type scanreg /fix
the registry will be repaired , then reboot that's it .
But you probably still have malware .
...note the spaces .

Okay,
DAVEINCAPS, I'm unable to do Disk Clean-Up b/c once my computer checks the floppy drive the whole computer crashes.
I used CCleaner to clean up what was in the System's temporary files folder, but I looked at the WINDOWS' TEMP folder (this is the same folder right?) and there was still a lot of files in there. I didn't manually delete them b/c I don't know if they're important.
I press Ctrl+Alt+Delete and this is what is running: Explorer, Sgmain, Sgbhp, Loadqm, Systray, Vptray, Ashmaisv, Ashwebsv.
larry, ever since I first found out about my problem I disabled System Restore. But does anyone know what is good amount of disk space to set it at?
Jack Frost46, I did what you said and repaired the registry, but once I rebooted, the problem was still there. I just posted my problem in the Security & Virus forum. Thx for the suggestion.
Still frustrated, but thanks again guys.

You may have to deinstall a program or 2 to free up some space so that you can scan for viruses and malware adequately.
