I have an xwave 512 sound card with an ESS Alegro 1989 chip. I have installed the drivers countless time including different updates ect. but it still won't work. The device says it works fine in device manager, but under sound and multimedia it says there are no playback devices available, and that the drivers are installed but due to an unkown problem will not work. Please help me out on this one.

I just bought the card about a month ago. I have an Asus 800mhz motherbrd, 128mb ram maxtor 45G hd. Running WinMe. I e-mailed the company and they said Hardware conflict, but doesn't a hw-conflict show up in device manager?

Check in device manager, what IRQ the soundcard is using.
Normally soundcards like to be on IRQ 5.
The OS may have put it on a different one.

That is my 5 cent, Good Luck

MY ESS soundcard worked fine in '98 but when I installed ME I get the same problem you got. I know it is nothing wrong with the card. I went back to '98.
